The build: a vertical journey through Hogwarts

Before we protect the castle, we have to build it. Assembling set 76454 is a nostalgic climb through Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Here is how the structure comes together:

The dungeon and its challenges: The build opens strong, with rockwork hiding secret play features. You construct the trapdoor where the newly molded Fluffy (the three-headed dog) sits, and dropping through it takes you past the Devil's Snare to a beautifully detailed micro-scale Wizard's Chess room.

The grand lobby and moving stairs: Moving up, the palette shifts to the classic tan brick of Hogwarts. A major highlight here is the spinning moving staircase, which you can physically rotate to reach different rooms.

Gryffindor Common Room: Tucked behind the Fat Lady's portrait, this cosy room is packed with detail, from the plush red seating and fireplace to beds covered in Every Flavour Beans.

Dumbledore's office and the peak: The upper spires hold the Headmaster's office, with fantastic greebling that includes Fawkes the Phoenix, the Sorting Hat and the Pensieve. Right at the top sits the Mirror of Erised, a fitting finish for such a tall build.

It is a hugely satisfying build, but the open-back dollhouse design leaves dozens of small accessories fully exposed to dust and knocks.

The chemistry of photo-oxidation:

LEGO bricks are made from ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) plastic. Under ultraviolet light, whether direct sunlight or harsh indoor bulbs, UV photons carry enough energy to break the polymer chains inside the plastic.

Combined with oxygen, this creates free radicals that alter the ABS surface and release chromophores, the compounds our eyes read as yellow or brown.See the case
